Last Session 30 >> into this session 31 ((recap))
With the sudden passing of Kester, the party cautiously move onward, down the open road, attempting to avoid travelling through the muddy fields of the Black Marsh… but the open road wasn’t kept open, for long.
After a couple of minutes of travel, the party notice a group of darker skinned goat demons, slightly different from the ones they previously had encountered, stood with their battle axes at the ready off to one side of the path, they prepare for battle as soon as they see our brave few, and as they begin to move, a second group can be seen over on the path itself…. Meanwhile, something was wrong with Xerxes.
In the commotion, he had totally lost track of all his thoughts, and headed towards Kesters now charred remains, in the hopes of retrieving some of the items that he had on him, and although this was possible for most of the surviving equipment, Xerxes doesn’t seem in the right frame of mind.
The party leave him to do as he wishes and face down the goat demons, Francis making good use of his minions to block the path to him and his comrades, so the party are able to deal with smaller numbers of foes, at any given time… The battle was not a difficult one with clever tactics like these in play, and one by one the goat demons were overcome and slain.
The battle was won… and Xerxes was nowhere to be seen now, as the party peer back up the road to see if they could see him, a bright flash of light shone across the land, followed by a huge booming sound… A pillar of magical energy, had erupted from the ground, way off in the distance it could be heard and seen piercing into the sky close by to where the Rogue Encampment would be situated, or at least that direction from what the party could tell.
Searching the area around where their enemies were, revealed a chest to the party, which Ophi was more than happy to open with one of her trusty Iron Keys… She soon realised that the trap on the chest was disarmed, and she only saw it after the lid was open, and the canister inside was exposed.
Deciding that heading back wasn’t really an option now, the party head along the southern road, for a good 20-30 minutes, at which point they notice that there is a deactivated way point, which Scarlett takes care of activating for them to use.
Along a western facing road though they encounter some old fort ruins, and with those, a group of Vile Hunters, and Vile Archers just behind those.
Carefully, they manage to take out the Hunters, but weary from the storm which still raged, and the shock still gripping them of losing a member of the party, they are almost overwhelmed and decide it be best to flee to camp, rather than dive into more combat. without spell power to fall on.
Once back inside of town, there is a moment where everyone is silent, deep in thought about current and past events, and instead of doing anything extra, the party all just head for a nice relax, to take some time to process what had happened, and to recover from their fatigue, and heal some wounds.
The party have been in camp for a few hours now, waiting out the storm, and now they are also weighing up their options, as they know that losing two members of the group – will have serious impact to follow.
