Session 23 into session 24 –(recap)
Welcome back everyone! – Here’s what happened in our previous session.
When last we met, Ophi’s Bodyguards were settling down for an extended rest within Atma’s tavern, only this time Rhyker was struggling to find rest as easy as he usually did.
He instead decided that it was time to confront Kaelin about something which was bothering him to the point of unrest, and so he got up and left his room.
During the midnight interrogation, Rhyker did manage to get Kaelin to come clean about her lying, with a strategically placed Zone of Truth spell.
After the night meeting, an awkward morning followed soon afterwards, to which the party awoke and came downstairs to get some breakfast as usual, but what wasn’t of the norm, was the hulking brute of a man sat at the table that they so frequently sit at… He was dressed in northern Barbarian garb, and was eating a medley of strange and exotic cuisine.
The party all moved towards the man, and introduced themselves, he returned the gesture and introduced himself as Aethelwulf, to which he offered them some of his food, but with it not to their liking, the party refused the offer.
Oh yes – and after being reminded by Nix, Kaelin did in fact grab the closest container of liquid, and doused the man with it.
The end result though, was that Aethelwulf temporarily joined the party on their quest to find the second staff piece, at least whilst their interests were aligned that was.
Glancing out the nearby window, Rhyker pointed out to everyone that it was morning, the sun should be shining brightly, but to his amazement when looking to the sky as he leaned out the window to look up, he saw a pitch black ball in the sky, which was eclipsing the sun fully.
The land for miles around had been covered in unnatural amounts of shadow.
The only light that remained was the gently flickering torches that were not able to produce as much light as before, but still shone brightly enough to pierce the darkness and light and guide people’s paths.
Rhyker then suggested that before they do anything, they should find Cain and ask him about this eclipse, to which they all agreed, and so left the tavern in an attempt to find Deckard Cain… Maybe he could shine some light on the situation?
However, on the way to the market place, they ran into Cain, looking very confused, rifling through pages of a new book he had.
The party greeted him and asked about the eclipse, but a baffled Cain could only suggest to them that Drognan, an old friend and member of the Viz’jerai mage order, would likely be able to help them all more… But, the party chose to ignore the words of the old man, and did NOT go to see Drognan – Opting to leave the city immediately instead.
Soon, the party were on their way to the way point, to head back to the Lost City… Minus Scarlett, who still remained asleep in her room at the tavern.
As soon as the party emerged from the way point, they took the battle to the enemy they knew were lurking over in the tall grass area behind what remained of the residential buildings they were searching before.
They managed to deal with most of the sand diving Tomb Creepers there, leaving only one left.
However, just as the final enemy fell… Kaelin decide to follow after the Barbarian helping them, and gained the attention of several Night Slinger beasts, awaiting atop a cliff.
As Kaelin attempted to flee, she was struck in the back by several poison tipped Javelins, which rendered her unconscious at the bottom of the cliff side steps.
Rhyker and Ophi saw what happened, and raced to both the Barbarian and Kaelin’s side, offering up potions and spiritual healing to help stabilize and cure their friend immediately.
The group then worked together in dealing with the sentry Night Slinger beasts, stood atop the cliff edge.
With the combat soon over, wounds were patched up, and statuses were all cured, it was time to search for loot… Sadly, though, the findings this time around were not all that great, and were of very little use to the party.
There is a chest inside one of the buildings, which was found, but the party left it alone for the time being… In the right hands, there’s a much lower risk of setting off possible traps.
Meanwhile, back inside of Lut Gholein, Scarlett was beginning to stir from her slumber, in her room.
She too awakens to this seemingly perpetual darkness, and heads downstairs, seeking her friends.
Scarlett instantly looked at where they would normally be seated, but to her surprise, they were nowhere to be seen.
A confused Scarlett looked over to Atma, and saw her waving a small note in the air.
Whilst this went on, the rest of the party witnessed a flash of brilliant prismatic light, and as they looked in the direction where it came from, they saw a larger than usual portal, made with multiple colours of thin strands of wavy energy.
It’s here where we pick up from in today’s session of… Adventure in Sanctuary.
