Session 18 into session 19 –(recap)

Welcome back everyone! – Here’s what happened in our previous session.

When last we met, Ophi’s bodyguards were stood at a major cross-section within the dark and foreboding tunnels of the Maggot Lair, debating on which direction to go next.

Scarlett, being Scarlett, picked a direction using pure randomness, and  rapidly headed away from the rest of the party, and it wasn’t long before her scouting antics got her into trouble once again… When will this girl ever learn?

She passed into a small room that adjoined to the passage where the others awaited her, and soon ran into a small group of Scarabs, who moved to attack Scarlett upon seeing her.
Scarlett fell back to the party quickly, avoiding the initial charge of the enemy, and informed Rhyker of the sudden appearance of the Scarabs that rapidly approached their position… A fight was imminent, and the party prepared for what was coming their way.

To start with – the battle went smoothly, until Scarlett was struck twice by one of the Scarabs chasing after her, and left her wounded and heavily poisoned… At this point, Scarlett fled to the rear of the party.

Krell rushed forward with Rhyker, and delivered a mighty blow to the attacking Scarab, who was knocked back into the wall… Between them they held the front line.

With clever tactics in play, and some very good luck of the dice, it wasn’t too long before the Scarabs fell to the power of the elements, and cold steel alike.

With the encounter over, the party wasted no time and quickly searched the area within the room where the Scarabs appeared, and then chose to move further down another passage, meanwhile Rhyker offered Scarlett healing aid in removing her affliction.

It wasn’t long before the new passageway took the party to another dead end, the tunnels were proving to be very difficult to navigate, and this time it led them into an area filled with swarms of blood sucking flies, several bone piles scattered across the floor, and various herbs growing within proximity of the walls that lined the strange new room-like area.
Of course, it goes without saying that the party unleashed hell upon these fly swarms, and finished them off without any real resistance from them.

Laughable threat levels at best, led this fight to be over as fast as it began, and once more the party made a quick search of the room.
Ophi gathered up a few useful herbs from an abundant trove in the room, which would come in handy with her potion making skills later on… And soon they were all walking back to the cross section once more, to venture down into the third and final unexplored passageway.

The third passage was longer than the others they had traveled, and the closed in spaces, coupled with the eerie darkness made them all feel very on edge as they pressed forwards.

The passage eventually opened out into yet a third room-like area, much larger than the others, and in the middle was a Maggot nest, with three large Sane Maggots around it.
The battle was filled with all kinds of strange twists and turns, but, eventually the Maggots were dealt with in a timely fashion, and the party found themselves searching the nest this time, and in doing so found two very large eggs at the centre of the nest.

At first, they tried to break them open using magic and physical attacks, but the eggs were very resilient.
One by one, they all made attempts to crack them open, but got nowhere… and in a strange twist, Krell decided he would take them both with him, and so promptly picked them up and stored them safely within his inventory.
He surmised that Elzix would likely be very interested in such rare findings, and could likely sell them for lots of gold.

During the search, the party also found a small opening in the side of the room, with a pathway which led down, further into the depths of the next level of the hive tunnels, which once ready, they all headed down eager to see what was next to find down there… Each step they took, led them closer to the Horadric Staff, hidden somewhere inside the maze.

Emerging into the next area, the party noticed almost instantly, there was a chest located at one side of the room, and an exit to the room directly in front of them.
Scarlett tried to open the chest up, but luck was not on her side, and she triggered the trap as she struggled to get the lid to open.
The trap hurt Scarlett, but more importantly, it destroyed some, not all, of the precious treasure held within.

After dealing with the small incident, the party decided it was here they were going to take a short rest, and so found a nice spot to catch their breath a little… This was a perfct time for Ophi as she could make some potions, using her Potion Maker kit she had on her, whilst the others kept watch on their surroundings for any potential ambushes.

The resting session passed by without any issues, and It’s here where we will pick up today’s session…
