Last Session 45>> into this session 46 ((recap))
We rejoin Ophi’s Bodyguards after they had just reached what could be considered as a half-way point inside of the Rogue Barracks, where they are currently heading into battle with a small group of Black Rogues, who currently bar the path.
The twisted sisters previously of the sightless eye, launch their attack on the party.
Battle ensues, but the fight is nothing more than a small obstacle for this band of seasoned warriors, and although they have a few slip ups during combat, in the end they are able to overpower, and overcome their adversaries.
A quick loot search later, and the party are once again off… Soon though, they pass through an area where they notice to one side of the room a staircase which leads down to the jail below.
Preferring to explore a little further however, the Bodyguards head along the passage which links to this small room-like section, and they encounter yet more Rogues to dispose of.
Battle was once again under way, but as before, the party manage to wipe them out very efficiently.
Again, another quick loot search, but this time it reveals quite a few extra items dotted around the area, that could be of some worth.
The party collected the items they wanted, left the rest behind, and headed to a door on the opposite side of the room, however, not wanting to just burst on in, they ask Aurora to sneakily open it up and peak inside.
Trying as best she could do, the door hinge sticks a little and as she shoves it open, she compensates for it and pushes harder, but overpowers the door and it slams open, instantly alerting the Devil Kin inside the room to her presence… and they instantly move to attack Aurora.
The awkward bottleneck situation caused due to a thin doorway, made it difficult for the party to move around, or even enter the room all at once.. but eventually these Devil Kin fall too.
Afterwards, the party take a moment to think about where they wanted to head next, and they start to move forwards around the large corner towards the south of the room, at which point the heat in the passage which they can feel rapidly intensifies as they almost turn the corner.
Deciding that this was a sign of nearing the inbuilt furnaces within the building that Charsi mentioned before, and also possibly things to come that they didn’t want to deal with just yet, they decide to leave it, and back track to the stairs, which leads them down to the Jail… On the way though, Ophi comes across a long chest, which she uses one of her keys to open up, and claims a powerful Spear from within.
Upon exiting the stairs onto the next floor, the party come across a security system which is located along the main passage way, which hits Rhyker pretty hard with fire damage after he triggers the mechanism.
Carefully, the party succeed in moving past the floor defenses, and move along a smaller passage way off to the side, where they run into three lurking Skeletal Guards, left as sentry’s to take out any intruders.
At this point, as Baxter listens very carefully, and swears that he can hear a barking sound coming from down this passage, but to his frustration, in his were-form he cannot inform anyone else.
The fight soon begins, as Baxter dives into the fray, and deals some heavy damage whist shrugging off blow after blow from the rusted blades of these long dead skeletal warriors.
Before too long, the party are victorious in battle once more… A quick search of the area is made, and Baxter manages to stray a little too far and triggers the security trap once more, taking big fire damage as a result, however, undeterred from pressing forward still, they all head down the once guarded passage, to see what was there.
A large metal open gate, looms before them all, and through it, an open cell filled with dead bodies and blood stained bunks, are everywhere.
Yet more barking continues, which everyone now hears, and it could be heard from just around the blind corner.
Baxter moves towards where he thinks the barking is coming from, where he finds a small dog, alive, but starving and chained up to the wall, where it was just left to die.
Baxter will not let this happen, he offers to feed the animal using his own food rations, and helps to free it by breaking the lock on his shackle, and eventually gains the trust of the hound – which does seem to take a liking to Baxter after some time spent bonding with him.
Rhyker in the meantime, notices the two vengeful ghosts, lingering in the cell near to the bodies of the murdered prisoners there, and urges the others to keep away from them.
Instead, the party leave the area, and go back to the stairs to the Barracks.
Once back up a level, they meet up with Zrin and Scarlett, and they all head back to the encampment using a handy scroll of town portal supplied by Ophi.
Once there, the Bodyguards decide to take a long rest, and recuperate a little, before they head out once more… which is where we find them at the start of this session.
During the night, a wandering Barbarian enters the encampment, after being sent from the northern tribes, to help quell the evil which grows once again in the heart of Khanduras.
