Last Session 0>> into this session 1 ((recap))
When last we met – our band of adventurers known as Ophi’s Bodyguards, were at the very start of their long journey towards the east.
– Finishing up any preparations which they needed to do to break camp, and move on.
Finally ready to go, they climbed into a caravan which was being drawn by two large strong horses, and led by Warriv who sat at the reigns.
Their journey started off much easier than expected, a simple trip through the empty wilderness took them through the heartlands of Khanduras, up to the monastery which belongs to the sisters of the sightless eye. From there Charsi gave Scarlett a new weapon to use, the party all said their fond farewells to the Rogue order, and eventually they headed down through the winding mountain pass nearby, out into the vast sandy wasteland, known as the desert of Aranoch.
Hours passed by – the party all suffering from the unbearable heat, as the sun seemed to grow even hotter as the day pressed on.
There was quite a distance to cover still, and as such the party were relieved when night fall finally arrived and the cool air that came with it caressed their skin, bringing a much needed reprieve from the heat of the day.
As they traveled further into the desert, Khanduras could no longer be seen behind them, the new land they found themselves in was very barren, with nobody else in sight, until one night the party stumbled across a lone desert wanderer, known as Morie… She had camped for the night after a long journey from the north, and had no visible transport options with her, yet she had made it this far.
Over this particular night, the party spoke to Morie and they shared a meal with her, all the while regaling her with tall tales of their heroics from recent events, right until late into the night, where eventually most of the party decided to turn in for the night, in the morning, the party thanked Morie, and invited her to join them in heading to Lut Gohlein, which she offered, as long as she would cook meals for them… We will see if this part of the deal holds true though… and so, Morie joins the party, they all break camp, mount up, and head further east along the road.
The following day saw no issues throughout the hottest part, and as the caravan carrying the party, headed even further into the desert, the terrain began to change from just sandy dunes to high rocky outcrops, and plant life such as palm trees, cactus plants, and withered trees surrounded by dry grass tufts, could be seen quite frequently.
However, coming to the chilled night time once more, led the party to a very convenient resting area, right next to an oasis, where they promptly made camp for the night, and all ended up huddled around the cooking pot in the middle of the camp, over a well built campfire.
Once more they stayed up a little longer than normal, eating and drinking, and talking to Morie about her skills and abilities as a Druid, but her usual forest domain was a far cry from where she was now… it was unusual terrain for most of them actually, especially Bosa, who hailed from snow covered areas around the base of Mt Arreat.
Eventually, sleep did find most of them, but Bosa offered to stay up with Zrin, as they had slept well the night before, and felt it was fair to keep watch on the party for this night, and it was a good thing they did, because during the night the camp was ambushed by a large hunting pack of Saber Cats… Humanoid creatures, of a feline nature, who hunt and kill in groups, any prey they find straggling in the desert.
The battle wasn’t fierce, but it was long and drawn out, and with Warriv awakened to the sound of battle, he immediately got the Horses prepped and the caravan ready to go so the party could escape, and half way through this time, four armed guards who were camping further up the road after their few days scouting this area, came rushing to the aid of the party who were holding off the attack, for now.
The party were given a message by one of the palace guards amidst the combat, to inform Lord Jerhyn that the Lacuni tribe had been spotted much closer west than they had before, and to prepare the city for an attack from the west.
After grabbing as much of their camp as possible in such a short time, they wished the guards good luck, and fled from the battle field, leaving the guards behind to cover their escape route, obviously, the guards knew the party could travel faster than them, as they had horses and a cart to ride on, and the message was important… time was crucial.
Eventually, after a few more hours of travel, the cart managed to pull up to the outer wall of Lut Gohlein, and passed quickly through the large metal portcullis gate… from there they headed past the market area, and down the sandy cobble paved back streets of this glorious port city.
Warriv now exhausted, directed the tired out horses to a location over in the south of the city’s residential and leisure district, where to their surprise… the party were able to meet Jerhyn himself… and he welcomed them to Lut Gohlein, told them to look around a little, and when ready to speak with a lady who owns the biggest tavern in the east of the city, known as ATMA, as she may have work for them.
Before the party could even try to speak to Jerhyn and thank him for his guidance, he fled back to his palace, as he had once again craftily slipped his guards protection, and had sneaked out into the town for some night time mingling, to see the night life of his city again.
