Session 27 into session 28 –(recap)
Welcome back everyone! – Here’s what happened in our previous session.
We started off the last session with the party on the brink of combat, with the latest group of claw vipers.
From the darkness they slithered ever closer to our heroes, until they were finally able to launch their attack!
In an odd turn of events however, Ophi managed to get the upper hand and lead the party on their opening gambit.
She in turn sent out her acidic magic, to cover and burn, melting parts of these wretched snake-like warriors off their bodies in seconds.
However, no sooner had Ophi cast her spell, Nix too cast hers, and in that moment, she felt that something was not quite right, and the spell failed miserably.
Wild and untamed magics of the world burst forth all around Nix, throwing her off of her concentration, but, instead of harmful magic, it was warm radiant, and soothing magic, which bathed the entire party in it’s warm glowing energy, healing some of their wounds instantly.
Soon after, the radiant light dissipated, a loud clinking noise could be heard from around the corner, and down the hallway the party had come from.
Followed by another, and another…
Fearing the worst, their eyes fixated on the rear of the group for a few moments, only to see to their amazement, a slightly grazed up Scarlett, emerging from around the corner.
Scarlett joined the battle, and let loose her arrows into the Serpents, dealing out some heavy damage in the process as she strikes one square in the forehead, following that up with a less precise shot to the shoulder pad, where the armour of the creature deflected the arrow into the nearest wall before splitting in two.
Kaelin was at this moment, starting to feel the adrenaline kick in.
Slipping away into stealth was easy for her, but, she was so pleased and proud of herself that she accidentally spoke and gave up her position to everyone, including the enemy.
She consequently gave up any chance to sneakily remain unseen, as the Snakes pushed forwards, trying to get to her.
During the charge, one of the Vipers did manage to connect a body slam with Rhyker, which knocked him back into Cinder, damaging him in the process, and leaving Rhyker feeling rather cold.
Cinder followed the charge attack with one of his own attacks, and quickly conjured forth a beam of pure moonlight, over the enemy that was currently closest to Rhyker.
Rhyker responded by uttering a few words of power, then activated his Might Aura…. He then started to cleave into the Vipers near to him, using Zealous strikes from his axe, combined with the powerful smite ability of the Paladins of the Zakarum faith.
Lastly, he quickly quaffed a potion which cleansed the lingering coldness from his body, giving him his full mobility back.
The battle raged for quite some time, and at one point, Nix tried to cast one of her Firebolts, and failed dismally.
The winds of Chaos once more picked up around the party, focusing on Nix this time, she was lifted into the air a couple of feet, and her eyes began to turn bright whitish/yellow and sparked a blue energy every so often.
The sparks of energy eventually covered her entire body as she was lifted in a T-pose position into the air…. Suddenly – Bolts of Lighting flew out from her body, and struck several members of the party at once.
Ophi, Kaelin, and Scarlett, could only stand and watch as their bodies became targets for Chain Lighting, bouncing between them all.
As a result of the charged up accident, Scarlett was downed instantly, she fell unconscious the moment her body touched the ground.
Whereas, Kaelin and Ophi were able to withstand a lot of the damage dealt to them.
Nix, soon returned to normal, with no recollection of what had happened.
At this point, unknown to the party, a small splinter group of the Vipers stayed behind in the room they came from, whilst a handful of them pushed out to meet the party in the passage.
The few that stayed behind were there to simply guard the stairway, which led down to the Altar Room.
The party would meet these a little later on, for now the battle at the front continued.
Cinder summoned forth a spirit of the forest, to aid him and his allies, by bolstering their health pools.
Scarlett managed to recover, with the aid of Ophi and one of her healing potions, and as Scarlett clambered to her feet, she grabbed her bow, nocked an arrow into it, and loosed a shot – once more striking one of the Vipers in the head.
However, reeling from the attack, one of the Snakes charged across a good amount of distance to Nix, and cut her down where she then stood, with their ice imbued claws.
The fight was a tough one, but soon it came to an end, or so the party thought… As Rhyker finished the final enemy with a deadly powerful swing of his axe.
By now, the urge to loot the bodies was overwhelming for Rhyker, and
figuring that it was safe to do so, the party quickly searched the area for any loot they could find.
Once the party had finished searching, and their next preparations had been completed, Rhyker once more took point, heading down the southern-most passage and into the room that the party were blocked from reaching before.
Wherein of course, the last of the Vipers from that group, were waiting for the party to enter the room.
The battle began quickly, and from the start it was going particularly well for them all.
However, that was all about to change – as the battle dragged on.
All of a sudden, a loud sound began echoing through the passageways of the temple, it was an odd beating sound, which sounded like someone or something heavy, clashing against something made of wood, almost like cowbell would sound if made from wood and not iron, and was hit with a tiny hammer over and over again.
The alarm for the temple had been tripped, and unknown to the party at that point, other groups of Vipers were now closing in on them from out of the shadow filled passage ways, that filled the cold and dark temple depths.
A wounded and struggling to breathe Scarlett, suddenly managed to use her town portal scroll, and with that explained to the party that her recent injuries were causing her some intense pain, and that she would go through the portal, head back to Lut Gholein, and seek out Fara for medical assistance.
With that – Scarlett winced in pain as she stepped through the portal, and vanished from sight.
Meanwhile, a concerned Ophi was following after Scarlett, and worried for her friend, she used the portal to escape the temple herself.
Not wanting to stay where they were, the remaining party members inside the temple, decided to get out of there, and so too made their way to the portal…. First, it was Cinder, then it was Kaelin, finally it would be Rhyker, but he had to get there still.
With amazing fortitude, Rhyker did manage to kill off the last of the first group of snakes that guarded the stairway, before making a mad dash for the portal himself, where in the nick of time he made it through, just as stepped one foot in, he caught a glimpse of two more groups of enemies encroaching on his location, from out of the shadows.
The party made it back to safety, and once in Lut Gholein again, they decided it was best to head for the tavern, to rest up a little, and prepare themselves more for fighting their way through the swarms of enemies down inside the claw viper temple.
After they had all eaten, had a few drinks, and sat and chatted for a while, they finally all went to their rooms for a good night sleep.
The following morning arrived far more quickly than some might have hoped, their bodies ached from the long and arduous journey they had undertaken… But it was too late now for them to quit.
Climbing from their beds, and each performing their chosen “out of bed” routines before exiting their rooms, the party headed downstairs to the tavern lobby, and fully refreshed, decided to spend an hour or so on training their respective tasks.
The training time flew by quickly for them all, and we find ourselves back with the party as they are sat within Atma’s Tavern dining area, wondering just what will they do next.
However, there’s also one other thing which is slightly odd… and that is the fact that they all saw her enter the portal… but Scarlett is nowhere to be seen.
So… on that cliff hanger – This my friends, is where we start today’s session of… Adventure in Sanctuary.
