When last we met, the party were still in town, making any final purchases and adjustments to their gear, in preparation for their next outing.
Before they all headed to the way-point however, Kester paid Akara a little visit, and as she saw him coming across to her, she folded up the scroll of Inifuss she was working on, and handed it over to Kester, along with teaching him the words he needed to break the seal, and activate the scroll once more.
Scroll in hand, and party ready, they all head back through the way-point, which takes them to the Stony Field once more.
Upon arrival, the party begin looking for the Cairn Stone formation, which was depicted on the scroll itself… However, they soon head the wrong way, and run into some straggling enemies they left behind on their last visit.
The group of enemies are nothing more than a Foul Nest, surrounded by Blood Hawks. They are weak, and pitiful, and are no match for the party, and soon fall to their attacks.
Scarlett, peppered them with crossbow bolts, Ophi, Francis, and Kester, all threw their magic at the critters, but Xerxes not wanting to be left out, had to find other ways to hit them, and didn’t want to just wait for the birds to lower their height, and so he picked a large piece of rock, climbed up it, and full of rage and with a run up, leapt off the top of it, piercing his targeted bird, with his sword, and dragged it down to the ground where it perished.
I think we can all agree it was quite the spectacle, as he performed this not once, but twice…. Maybe a thrown weapon or a bow would be safer?
Anyway – After the fight was over, Xerxes took care of searching the chest nearby, and soon the party were back on the road, on track for reaching the large stony area they seek, after Francis took a glance at a familiar camp site, which allowed them to get their bearings.
The party move swiftly to the stone circle, and Kester shouts the words as he holds the scroll out in front of him – “INIFUSS, REVEAL THY SECRETS!” – Almost instantly, the runes on each of the circles on the scroll, lit up one by one, this happened 2-3 times, then the scroll magics went dormant again… but Kester being a smart man, had already worked out that this was a sequence being shown to him, and placed his hand on the stones one by one, in order of the corresponding runes.
As he pressed on each stone, the rune on them lit up, and upon touching the final stone, a small storm began to form in the middle of the stones… Lightning burst from the sky, and trailed down towards the storm clouds gathering below it, and instantly started to swirl around the stones, following the order in which they were touched by Kester, each bolt going faster and faster with each passing second, and leaving scorch marks on every stone they hit.
Finally, the storm went from swirling white clouds, to something very peculiar, a faint red glow could be seen emerging from the middle of the storm, and with it, shadows of shapes and figures unknown for now.
The storm settled down quickly after that, and in its wake was a large blood red swirling portal, with which had 6 carver demons, and a 7th one, one which was much larger and powerful than the average carver… This was Rakinishu – The carver demons champion.
As soon as they all manifested, they made it clear they would attack the party, and so a fight kicked off once more between the minions of hell, and our brave adventurers.
Rakinishu did have a few sneaky tricks up his sleeve, but it was not enough to stop the party from slaying him and his minions.
The battle for the Stony Field, was over… Ophi had delivered a deadly accurate mote of flame, which danced around the body of Rakinishu at first, singing and scorching him with every touch it made, until finally taking his life with a well timed insertion into his back and into his ribcage, where it sat for a second or two, which caused all his insides to ignite instantly… There wasn’t much left of him after that.
However – Now, the party are left wondering… What is this odd portal -why has it formed here and now? and where could it possibly lead to?
